From Our Director...
I hope
many of you will be joining us on November 17th at the Killington Grand
Hotel for our eleventh Partners In Care Conference, The Power
of Our Voices. It is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with
colleagues and friends and to share our voices in support of children and
youth with special needs and their families. (view

THE
HEART OF PARENT TO PARENT:
Our
one-to-one
peer support program began fifteen years
ago with 23 Supporting Parents, most of whom lived in Chittenden County.
Today 217 parents throughout Vermont volunteer to share their experiences
with another parent through a carefully made "match" designed to provide
guidance and assurance, encouragement and support, information and way-finding
for families. Research has validated what families tell us that families
involved in a one-to-one match with an experienced Supporting Parent have
more confidence, are more hopeful and are better able to cope with their
situation. We are confident in our model, our process for preparing Supporting
Parents and our protocol for matching families.
You will learn how matches are made and our effort to match families' priorities and concerns as closely as possible. We are tremendously grateful to those of you who are part of this network of Supporting Parents, YOU are the heart of Parent to Parent and we need more of you. With over 350 different diagnoses represented amongst the families involved with Parent to Parent, we know it is imperative that we expand our Supporting Parent network to meet the diverse and unique needs of families in Vermont.
In this edition of The Heart of It, you will read in more detail about some of our programs, collaborative efforts, and family support activities such as opportunities to join us for Parent Evenings. As always, we are eager to learn from you ways in which we can be more helpful- please give us a call. ©
