This
summer, a survey was conducted to evaluate services provided by Parent
to Parent. The survey was a way of ensuring the quality of our support
for parents. We thank all who were willing to participate and for your
honest, thoughtful responses. Here is our partial 'report card' on how
we did. Approximately 140 families responded all of whom had called Parent
to Parent within the past year. They heard about us largely through an
agency referral and the top 2 reasons for calling was for information and
funding. A large majority of families got 'what they needed' from the phone
call with Parent to Parent staff.
We're
happy to report that, overall families were satisfied with our response,
and found us accessible, empathetic, supportive, and knowledgeable. We
had high marks for being 'valuable to your family' and happily, our highest
grade was that you'd recommend Parent to Parent to others. (Please do!)
Results
from the questions involving respite and personal care services will be
published in our next newsletter. We also conducted an evaluation
of our Supporting Parent program, and will publish these results as well.
We will
endeavor to apply these responses to continuous improvement.

The Bennington Supporting
Parent Training
On September
25, staff traveled to Bennington for a very successful Supporting Parent
training. We feel honored to have had six empathetic parents, who are very
knowledgeable and strong advocates for their children with special needs
complete the training. Four of the parents were attending for the first
time and two were "veteran" Supporting Parents.
As they shared their family stories and participated in the training activities, we could clearly see how much support other families will be receiving from these peer mentors. The participants were engaging and supportive throughout the day and provided each other with valuable information and resources.
We are
excited to introduce our new Supporting Parents, Judy McGraw, Carol Simon,
Carlene Bacon, Lori Straley, and Linda DeSanty, and welcome them to our
wonderful family of Supporting Parents. Again, we thank you for sharing
the day with us, for your commitment of time, and for your gift of experience
that will surely touch the heart of your parent match.
[so
sorry their picture turned out too blurry!! :-( ]
