From Our Director...
Our goal for Parent to Parent’s newsletter and website is to provide a link to families, which is dependable and constant.  Families typically call us for support at the early stages of their child’s diagnosis, after a new development in their situation, during a transitional period, to inquire about specific services or resources, or quite simply to share joy-filled or frustrating moments with us.  But there are also the “in-between” times, when it is equally important for Parent to Parent to remain connected to families.  Through our newsletter and website we hope to keep families and professionals informed of legislative updates on policies that directly affect children and families as well as provide information on educational opportunities, program updates, and family stories.  By learning about these and other resources, we all become better advocates for children and families.

Over 4,800 families and professionals receive our newsletter, and our website receives approximately 1,700 hits per week from people seeking information. Of these, 40 people per day read our on-line booklet, Six Ways to Access Medicaid

This issue of The Heart of It focuses on our work to create systemic change at the local and state level.  So much of our work, while ongoing, is translating into action and this is attributed to the collaborative efforts of Parent to Parent and the many individuals and organizations with which it partners.  While we have experienced many challenges in the past year, including fiscal changes, we have had many accomplishments to celebrate as well.  We have so much to inform our constituents about that some of our regular newsletter features are not included in this issue.  Please check out our website with a new and improved look for constantly updated information on program activities and events.

We welcome your thoughts, comments, and suggestions so that we can be assured we are meeting your needs.   ©

Best,
                     Nancy DiVenere
