Family Support Report

Staff around state making a difference for families

Parent to Parent of Vermont is dedicated to serving all Vermont families with children with special needs. One of the most significant challenges we face in this is geography.  Even in a state as small as ours, we must work hard to provide programs and services that are accessible to families where they live.  Our Regional Family Resource Coordinators help us do that by answering questions, providing support, and helping families access needed resources.

In the spring of 2004, Parent to Parent of Vermont hired a new Regional Family Resource Coordinator based out of Newport in the Northeast Kingdom.  Paula Manzi has many years experience working with families with children with special needs and has lived in the Newport area for over 16 years.  Since Paula became the Regional Family Resource Coordinator, we have welcomed many new families from that area into our network and have opened the door to reveal how truly great the need is.

Parent to Parent of Vermont currently maintains staff in St. Albans, Newport, Brattleboro and Randolph, in addition to our home office in Williston.  The importance of having a local number and familiar face from the community for families with children with special needs is clear.

Parent to Parent of Vermont receives regular calls from families all over the state (including Bennington, Montpelier, Rutland, and Morrisville, to name a few), requesting that there be a Family Resource Coordinator in their area. Parent to Parent of Vermont continues to work hard to make our current field positions permanent and add new staff in other communities around the state.
