Parent to Parent of Vermont’s First Annual Walk-a-Thon was a huge success by all standards.
The students of Saint Michael’s College and the University
of Vermont that organized the evening put a tremendous amount of effort
into making it a full event for all participants. The evening kicked
off with a two hour family fun time that included performances by
Robert and Gigi and the Kids on the Block Vermont puppets. Nothing is
better than watching the faces of the 50 plus children sitting still
for an hour with rapt expressions on their faces while the “Kids” did
their thing.The “Walk” part of the evening included performances from local bands and Six Day Slide who donated their time and talent to this event. The Boston based band helped keep walkers energized in the middle of the night as did many local talents. The Celtic Dancers who performed at Celtic Night greeted the stalwart walkers with a sunrise performance.
In all, $8,500 was raised which will go towards direct family support programs!

Eleven year old Jack Workman took on fundraising for Parent to Parent with a fervor that surprised even his mom, Cal. With his Saint Mike's Big Friend Megan Murphy, Jack went door to door on campus and raised $45 for the Walk-a-Thon. "I'm surprised at how quickly nickels and dimes add up," said Jack. MOVE's Mentoring Program matched Jack and Megan, who have had a treasured 4 year friendship that has aided the growth of both of them. This was Jack's first attempt at fundraising and already he is offering tips like a seasoned pro: "I tried to mix my pitch to keep it fresh!" The staff at Parent to Parent think Jack is pretty remarkable.
