nancy rwj award

Parent to Parent of Vermont's executive director, Nancy DiVenere, was awarded the prestigious "Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leadership Program 1998 Award" in April. The award is given to 10 outstanding and largely unrecognized leaders in the field of Community Health who have created or significantly improved programs that further develop key health services within their communities.

The recipients' organizations, in our case Parent to Parent of Vermont, receive $100,000; that includes a personal stipend of $5,000 for the awardee and $95,000 to be used for program enhancement over a period of up to three years. The funds are intended to help awardees realize their dreams of improving and expanding their programs. Nancy and the staff and Board of Directors, along with support and guidance from Robert Wood Johnson personnel, are strategically planning how to best utilize these new financial resources and opportunities.

Along with this award comes major visibility for Parent to Parent. Nancy was honored by the Robert Wood Johnson foundation in Washington D.C. in June and Parent to Parent has since been recognized in local and national media coverage. The Medical Education Project has been in the forefront of the interest and will most definitely continue to be used as a model for similar programs throughout the country.

A special thank you is in order to Kathleen Kirk Bishop from the University of Vermont, who nominated Nancy for this award. Congratulations, Nancy! We are so proud & honored to have you lead us.
