Nancy DiVenere, our first Executive Director picture of Nancy
Nancy worked at Parent to Parent of Vermont, since its inception in 1984 when it was a Chittenden County based organization, and retired her position as Executive Director in June of 2004.
She writes:
I remember how exciting it was to have a part in the first grant in 1987 that led to the formation of Parent to Parent as a state-wide support and information network for families with children who have special needs.  My role progressed from Supporting Parent to Outreach Coordinator to Executive Director. My experience as a parent of a child with special health care needs was the impetus for my work with Parent to Parent. In partnership with families, health care providers, educators, advocacy organizations, and policy makers I was actively involved in planning and implementing programs to support the concerns and priorities of families. I am thrilled to have been honored in 1998 by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as one of ten individuals in the country changing or improving health care in communities.  I am proud to have worked over the years with so many dedicated individuals, who share my commitment to Parent to Parent’s mission and vision by implementing programs, supporting families, teaching family-centered care, championing for system and policy change, coordinating early intervention services, and preparing Supporting Parents.  I am excited about all that we have accomplished, and also recognize the need for continued growth and focus to ensure that all Vermont communities can be connected to the positive changes for which we are striving.
