Our History...
Parent to Parent was initially established in 1984 as a Chittenden County-based program. By 1987 it was founded as a state-wide organization to help parents with children who have an illness or disability find the support they need from other parents, healthcare professionals and the communities in which they live. Over the past 18 years, we have expanded our programs, partnerships, and outreach to provide a variety of services to help parents of children with special needs ranging from Down Syndrome to cystic fibrosis to ADHD. In fact, of the thousands of families served, these children have one of over 350 different diagnoses, some more common and some extremely rare. Presently Parent to Parent supports over 3,000 families in the state of Vermont, which represents 15% of the families who have children with special needs.
