GREEN MOUNTAIN HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
P.O. BOX 381 Burlington, VT (802) 872-8726
September 2006
Dear Friend,
Green Mountain Habitat for
Humanity has been offered a wonderful opportunity to build a new home
for, and with, a qualifying family who has a member with a
disability. The Lions Club International has offered us a grant
and volunteer support for this project.
We are approaching families in
Chittenden County whom we believe might be interested in owning a safe,
decent, and affordable home, and who qualify under the guidelines of
both the Lions Club and Habitat.
We will build this home in
Chittenden County and we have a deadline of January 15, 2007 to
complete the application process and approve one family to participate
in this special project.
Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity Requirements for Eligibility
- Family must be currently living in housing which is substandard
or inadequate in some way. This could include many things:
- deterioration of the home such that it is not
safe, dry or warm;
- it is too expensive;
- it is in a dangerous neighborhood;
- family is living with relatives or friends;
- family is homeless;.etc.
- Family total income must be low but not too low to afford a 0%
interest mortgage of between $500-650 per month for 20 years or more
(for a family of 4 the range should be $21,000-$35,000), and not have
excessive debt
- Family must be able and willing to contribute 150-300 hours of
"sweat equity" (helping in whatever way possible to build
the home under supervision; this can include painting, providing snacks
to volunteers, office work, phone calls, etc.)
If you think you may qualify and are interested in learning more about
the project, please call or email me right away.
We are very excited about this opportunity and hope you will want to
participate if you feel you may qualify. I look forward to
hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Julie Burger Pierson,
