Two Women Win Partners in Care Awards
Parent to Parent of Vermont announced the winners of the Partners in Care Award at their annual conference in December. Two individuals were honored for exemplifying and promoting the ideals of family-centered care, a holistic philosophy that appreciates families as families and children as children, recognizing that they possess a wide range of strengths, concerns, emotions, and aspirations beyond their need for specialized services. Dr. Deb O’Rourke, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at UVM, and Tracey Wagner, Pediatric Nurse Educator at the Vermont Children’s Hospital of FAHC both received awards. Each of these women was honored for her invaluable and ongoing support to families of children with special needs. In so many ways, each of these women displays a commitment to the communities in which they live and work; they have demonstrated leadership qualities to be admired by their families, colleagues, students, and other health care professionals. Parent to Parent of Vermont is as a state-wide organization founded to help parents with children who have an illness or disability find the support they need from other parents, health care professionals, and the communities in which they live.
